An aide to West Bankistan President Mahmoud Abbas wants the holiest site in Judaism to be Palestinian, according to the JTA.
Adnan Husseini, aide to Abbas, said Palestinian peace terms include the Western Wall, calling it, “part of Islamic heritage that cannot be given up.” This flies in the face of past “land for peace” plans stipulating Israeli control of the Western Wall and Jerusalem’s Jewish Quarter.
Muslims call the wall “al-Buraq”. They believe the Prophet Mohammed tethered his winged horse to the wall before ascending to heaven to receive the laws of Islam from Allah.
Husseini’s comments are dangerous. As Dore Gold argues, when Palestinians mistakenly believe they might one day control Jerusalem, frustrations inevitably result, sparking renewed Palestinian violence, as was the case in the 2000 al-Aqsa intifada.
