Anti-Hamas Intifada Underway?

An explosion rocked the headquarters of the Hamas-affiliated Al-Qassam brigades in Gaza City causing a number of casualties on Monday, Maan News reports.

As early as August, Reuters reported that Palestinians exploded a bomb outside of the former presidential compound that was once inhabited by Mahmoud Abbas, but was sacked by Hamas. This was the first attack of its kind against Hamas since the Gaza coup in June.

The October 2007 report of the bombing of a Hamas supporter’s car supported the notion that an intifada against Hamas might have started. One Hamas spokesperson admitted that a series of attacks had taken place across the Gaza Strip.

It’s too soon to tell if this is a campaign or isolated acts of violence. If a campaign fails to materialize, it may be on account of Palestinian exhaustion, after years of violence against Israel, followed by internecine fighting in recent years.
