15 confirmed rockets struck the Western Negev region of Israel this morning. Following the barrage of rockets, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) launched precise air strikes against the rocket launchers in northern Gaza. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attacks in retaliation for the deaths of four of its leaders in Bethlehem.
According to numerous media reports, the rockets fired were “Qassams.” This is incorrect. PIJ rockets are technically different from the ones fired by Hamas. PIJ rockets are called “Al-Quds” rockets, and have a slightly smaller range of 5.5 miles, compared to the standard Qassam range of 6 miles.
