The U.N. Security Council called for disarming Hezbollah and to end the conflict between Lebanon and Israel, the International Herald Tribune reports.
A statement adopted Tuesday by the 15-member council seeks “implementation of all provisions of Resolution 1701” which ended the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah in August 2006.
Hezbollah refuses to disarm, however. AFP reports today that Syria is supplying rockets to the Shi’ite militia in violation of UNSCR 1701.
So long as Hezbollah continues to arm, Israel must prepare for war. Washington can also help by slapping Hezbollah with designations. See my piece in today’s Weekly Standard Online for ways to target Hezbollah’s advertising agencies with sanctions.
