What is clear is, as Israel’s President said this week, Iran is not pursuing nuclear capability for energy. Just about everything else is an enigma. The loosening of sanctions on Iran provides billions in funding for a regime that hangs its citizens in public and provides military support to Russia against Ukraine. US envoy Rob Malley was quietly relieved of his post and his security clearances, but even Congress isn’t allowed to know why. Shortly after Malley’s disappearance, Iran ramped up its military threat to US and other shipping in the Persian Gulf, requiring the deployment of additional American military assets to keep the sea lanes open.
