The US ambassador to the United Nations, Zalmay Khalilzad, said Tuesday that Hizbullah must “immediately” disarm, according to the Lebanon Daily Star. Meanwhile, Hizbullah’s oracle, Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, urged the Arabs on Wednesday to protect the “Arab authenticity and personality in the face of the conservative US administration,” according to another article in the Daily Star.
Hizbullah is of renewed and increased concern to Israel, too. Haaretz reports that, with Iranian backing, Hizbullah has dramatically increased its rocket range to threaten most of Israel. Hizbullah’s new, Iran-supplied rockets have a range of up to 185 miles, enabling the group to strike as far south as Dimona, where Israel’s nuclear reactor is located.
The Associated Press reports that fresh fears have emerged over the possibility of another Israel-Hizbullah war.
