Assailants set Fatah’s offices west of Gaza City on fire Sunday morning, causing considerable damage to the building, the International Middle East Media Center reports.
A Hamas spokesman condemned the attack, telling reporters that the attackers were identified and would be brought to justice. He claimed the assailants were Fatah members whose salaries were frozen by the Ramallah government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Given the ongoing animosity between Hamas and Fatah in recent months, it is possible that Hamas was responsible.
Fatah is also under attack by fellow Palestinians in Lebanon, as I noted in an article that appeared on Sunday in Pajamas Media. Indeed, Fatah appears to have all but lost its standing as the “sole representative” of the Palestinians.
